String quilts are my favorite to make. I’ve seen many created over the years by members of an online group who make and donate them. You can see their finished quilts here – Heartstrings Quilt Project.
About two years ago, I was at a weekly meeting to work on donation quilts. The committee chairwoman told the group “String quilts are ugly. Please don’t bring them in to donate.”
Gauntlet dropped. Challenge accepted!
I thought showing her a beautiful string quilt might change her mind. I’m not sure it did but I’ve enjoyed challenging myself to make nice quilts with leftover fabric strips that other quilters often toss out because they’re not quite sure what to do with them.
