String Quilts

String quilts are my favorite to make. I’ve seen many created over the years by members of an online group who make and donate them. You can see their finished quilts here – Heartstrings Quilt Project.

About two years ago, I was at a weekly meeting to work on charity quilts. A quilting friend there said “String quilts are ugly. We don’t want any more.” Gauntlet dropped. Challenge accepted! I thought showing her a beautiful string quilt might change her mind.
(My friend Ellen used that metaphor when I told her what had happened and now I think of it every time I make one. 🙂

The quilts below are shown next to a photo of their backing.

The next group of quilts have all been given away or donated.
